All Africans are heroes, but amongst us, we have giant heroes, who have stood and fought for us to become independent as we are today. They became political activists for our welfare and wellbeing. Let's talk about 10 of these African political heroes to remember today.

1. Nelson Mandela:

Nelson Mandela's full name is Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. He is a Black nationalist and South African anti-apartheid activist, and the first Black president of South Africa from 1994–99. His heroic deeds for Africans are fighting racial segregation,  triggering  mass protests and civil disobedience campaigns,  After the ANC was banned in 1961, he founded its military wing "Umkhonto we Sizwe" (The Spear of the Nation). As its commander-in-chief, he led underground guerrilla attacks against state institutions.
His negotiations in the early 1990s with South African Pres. F.W. de Klerk helped end the country’s apartheid system of racial segregation and ushered in a peaceful transition to majority rule. Mandela and de Klerk were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1993 for their efforts. He was born July 18, 1918, Mvezo, South Africa and died December 5, 2013, in Johannesburg.
